The Alcyone Table

Inspired by Andria’s creative work in our foundry in Athens, and years of collecting sculptural objects rooted in myth and material, The Alcyone Table bridges eras: modernist in proportion, classical in symbolism.

Named after Alcyone — the mythic kingfisher whose story gave rise to the halcyon (alcyonides) days of winter calm — the piece reflects a moment of stillness within movement.

Cast in brass, this sculptural side table balances architectural restraint with narrative detail. Rising from a textured square base, the slender column supports a refined circular top, its simplicity in deliberate contrast to the relief below.

The base features a hand-cast bas-relief composition: birds gathered around a central tree form, rendered in low, expressive relief. The imagery nods to the myth of Alcyone and the kingfisher reinterpreted through contemporary foundry technique.

Each table is individually cast and hand-finished, ensuring natural variation in patina and detail. Functional as a side table yet powerful as a standalone object, it is designed to sit comfortably in a living room, bedroom, or gallery-like setting.

A sculptural study in weight and light. Each table is individually cast and hand finished in antique brass, its surface alive with soft gold and bronze undertones that shift with the day’s light. The stem bears engraved diamond and circular forms inspired by ancient mosaic geometry, symbols once used to mark protection and passage.

Forged in Anthologist’s Athens atelier, the piece carries the traces of its making: a hand textured base, subtle patina, and a quiet sense of permanence. Both anchor and altar, it embodies the strength of Greek craftsmanship and the beauty of imperfection.
