Every December, as the world begins to shimmer with anticipation, two reindeer set out from the misty mountains of Mexico. The air there is thin and cool, perfumed with pine and woodsmoke, and threaded with the sound of Mary and her team of women artisans laughing softly as they work. From the wool of local sheep—spun, woven, and dyed by hand—they bring Prancer and Vixen to life, stitch by patient stitch.

But Prancer and Vixen were never ordinary reindeer. Legends say they were born from Santa’s sleigh dust itself—the spark that falls when the reindeer lift off into the clouds. Every year, that golden dust drifts across the globe, finding the most magical hands to shape it anew. This time, it landed in Mary’s workshop in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas Mountains, where craft meets enchantment.

Prancer, with his bright, multicoloured antlers, carries the joy of celebration. He loves to dance in circles of candlelight, leaving trails of laughter and warmth behind him. Vixen, soft and silver-white, is his loyal companion—the calm to his sparkle, the snow to his flame.

Together, they flew from Mexico to Greece one starry night, following the Aegean moonlight across the Atlantic, curious about the creatures they’d heard of in bedtime stories—the winged horses, the wise owls, the lions that guard ancient temples.

They landed softly on the Hill of the Muses in Athens, where myths still hum in the marble and the olive trees whisper secrets of the gods. There, they grazed for days, enchanted by the golden light and the distant echo of the sea. One evening, they overheard a group of artisans talking about The Anthologist Ark—a menagerie of myth and memory that welcomed creatures from all lands, each with a story to tell.

The reindeer looked at one another and knew instantly: this was where they belonged.

Now they’ve found their home within The Anthologist Ark—a gathering of handmade wonder, nestled between the walls of an Athenian workshop. By day, they rest in the company of chimeras, dolphins, and dragons; by night, they stir ever so slightly, their stitched hooves ready to take to the skies again.

Because even reindeer made of wool remember the call of the wind—and the magic of a story well-travelled.

Lovingly handcrafted by a women’s cooperative in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico exclusively for Anthologist, each reindeer is a whimsical blend of artistry and charm, embodying the spirit of their homeland with vibrant, natural wool and playful personalities.

Following our founder’s mantra of “a piece of whimsy in every room,” Prancer and Vixen are more than décor—they’re conversation starters, artful companions, and symbols of cultural preservation. Whether perched on a shelf or nestled in a child’s nook, these fluffy treasures are certain to bring smiles and warmth wherever they go.
